I started a chapter in 2020
Life is a story
One minute you’re in a world crippled by a pandemic, “locked-down”. Absolute chaos ensues, information from a lot of different sources, rumours spreading like wildfire, dependable outlets being too complex to understand or too vague to trust.
And just like that, another chapter of my life was being written.
I knew I wanted to contribute, but I also knew I wasn’t fully qualified to, I mean I was only a medical student at the time so i couldn’t have been at the frontlines, so I volunteered.
As team leader at the time in school, with what little privileges I had, I voiced my willingness to contribute. I helped source and distribute protective face masks and hand sanitisers, not just for my team but for other teams and by extension little communities that needed the support.
I call that an audacious act, simply because at the time, the virus was still poorly understood, and healthcare workers were losing their lives trying to protect the vulnerable from this virus. Still, I saw it as an honour to be able to contribute.
An honour to join brave healthcare workers in my own, not at the frontlines but in the proactive effort to prevent others from ever having to face the disease.
That experience changed me. I decided in my heart to never stop contributing.
I’ve carried a deep, persistent burden: the desire to help people understand infectious diseases. In the event of another outbreak, they will know enough to protect themselves better.
Information is a very valuable currency. It is powerful because it expands knowledge and knowledge saves lives.
Now, as a fully certified medical doctor, I have chosen to stand in the gap both in prevention and in cure. It is my hearts desire that we stop the spread of infectious diseases long before they can cripple us again.
